Do you collect reviews? Here 7 rules of the new legislation as of May 28, 2022

It was bound to happen: the ban on fake reviews. But apart from the ban, you also have to meet a number of requirements to collect or publish reviews. If you use a review platform like 5sterrenspecialist.nl, it's usually easier to comply with this new legislation!

The rules briefly explained:

1.If you post reviews on your own website, then you are obliged to state how you collected these reviews and how you check whether they are genuine. You have to state this explicitly in your review policy; you can't just put it in the 'small print';

2.Employees/stakeholders are not allowed to post reviews;

3.You may not reward the posting of a review. If you do, you must explicitly mention this in the review;

4.Deleting reviews (or not displaying them) is in principle prohibited;

5.'Likes ' also fall under this new legislation;

6.Linking to another site with reviews about your company is only allowed if you can guarantee the authenticity of these reviews;

7.It is prohibited to post fake reviews about competitors or competing products.

If you make use of reviews, you will have to draw up a review policy, for example, or carefully check whether the request for reviews complies with the latest legislation. A fine can be as high as 4% of your turnover!
